WTB: Rear Captain Seat Base

WTB: Rear Captain Seat Base

Postby WinnieVan [OP] » February 21st 2017, 1:28am

Looking to turn my front passenger into a swivel and hear that using a small rear captain seat base is the way to do it.

Anyone have one sitting around? I don't want the whole chair, just the base. I have a 2004 Astro.

Good deal. I think making my own swivel base with help from this guy... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1bydh5zcrc

Johny is selling them on Expedition Portal, but its nearly 400 with shipping. I'd shell it out, but I think I can do it for like 100 bucks if I can find a seat mount for $10.

Definitely junk yard is the best bet, not many tools required either.

OK sports fans, what he is saying is that he wants to find a ''shorter'' factory rear seat base and buy a K&N swivel base.
With these two items anybody with a drill can assemble a cheap swivel seat.
Without raising the original factory seat level too much if at all.
andrew678122 had a thread where he turned the forum on to these.
But I don't think that they had a fix for the height increase in that one.
Northern Tool sells it on ebay, amazon, and maybe through their catalog but you can not pick it up at a store near you.
It ships from the supplier/or manufacturer to you, they are just the middleman.
Comes out 2 for $186.47 or 1 for $95.98 those prices are with shipping to my zip.

There is a company Rural King that has a much better deal but it says on back order ?
2 for $153.94 ''free delivery over $100'' and 1 for $91.84 shipped to my zip.
They have 85 stores, I don't know if you can do a store pic up ?
Or if the price would rise when the back order goes through or if it will go through.
Amazon seems to give a good deal on back/pre orders, it's easy money.
They are not on amazon, just an example that back order may not be the end of them.

Also a place called RV Surplus that has pedestal style swivels in three heights.
$50 a pop with high shipping it was $77.04 for delivery of 2 of them to my zip.
You would most likely have to put different bolts in your floor or have some simple fab done.
Not worth it if you don't have skills - or help, maybe with help from the forum ?
I would ask well before purchase.

AstroWill has a bunch of helpful links on his signature/profile page.
One helps you find pick and pulls and some of them, '''LKQ'', you can see if they have any Astos or Safaris and how long they have been there.
Fresh meat would be worth checking out for more than just seat bases.

Also any questions you have, the search results are better with your browser than the search box on this site.
It will lead you back to this site but with hits more related to your search.
From the site it shows you every time those words were ever used together.
And it is more needle in a haystackish to dig through.

Putting this up for newbies like myself that get on this thread later.

I was just at the junkyard on Sat and found this in a full-size conversion van:

Order now and you'll get a blue comb too! All kidding aside, I could get the whole bucket seat assembly (non-power bucket seat) for about $35, so the base maybe for $10. Plus with the floor mount it is easily removable too. Only problem is for those with the vents under the front seats, you would need to remove the vent so it could be bolted to the floor or do some other creative method to keep that vent.

I'd go to a junkyard before spending a ton of money on one or trying to make one. Way cheaper & easier.

Oh, and this is nicer than the ones in my van, mine aren't horizontal so when you rotate 180° the seat leans funny. These keep the seat level. And notice the 4-bolts holding the seat track, I didn't measure but I'm sure you could drill new holes if yours don't line up.
