How to add aux cord to stock radio

How to add aux cord to stock radio

Postby Rookie162 [OP] » December 18th 2016, 6:40pm

2002 astro

Wondering if i can install an aux cord capability to my stock radio. Buddy of mine mentioned since i have a 2002 my radio has cd changer capabilities which would allow me to adapt an aux cord.

Bluetooth would b nice out of my stock radio too....but not totally necessary

Thanks.

There are a few threads on doing this, someone will be along to point theirs out shortly.

You may want to check eBay as well - there are a couple of outfits on there that mod stock GM radios to include an AUX input (which they supply as a 3' cable you can dash mount)- I bought one of these that worked out pretty well for a while.

Operation is a bit clunky however - after about a year I just spent $100 on double-din, cut my dash and have a unit that does AUX, USB, bluetooth etc - in retrospect I probably should have gone that route to begin with since the lower-end units really are very cheap.

I followed these instructions, no mod to the radio necessary:

http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/for ... xhgm4.html

And the PDF is here
Code: Select all
https://96rtxa.by3302.livefilestore.com/y3mwToByfOVPi6zAtLUkCmi3idZid4xZN-jLC1zY2N-cBAATPo2iZG0EwMDdOjUh3YVuY1b2BejYzdJF3bwfnJs3fYk8g5GsBzRY4N_A34RBK9pnH8Rlfdnu_tXZfcKVR4lRZnm6L3z0DRAE6dcAG9Jz7n3pn5nWToiTP73ooxuYrs/iPod%20Install%20in%20C5%20Using%20PXDP%20and%20PXHGM4.pdf?download&psid=1

It's for a Corvette, but the head unit is the same.

No you do not, the CD player works normally as soon as you remove the headphone plug from the jack.

Like it says in the 3rd post of that thread...

That's where you plug the external CD player or the iPod controller. There are notes in the PDF I linked to.

If you right-click and choose open in new tab, the forum link opens.

The PDF opened when I posted that link, but now seems to be down. So I've uploaded it here.

If only the external controllers were cheaper, would be nice to have an integrated control.

I will have to take a look on eBay, it's not so bad now that I added Bluetooth, but sometimes it would be easier to switch tracks directly on the factory radio.
