Radio started working

Radio started working

Postby zzimmer3 [OP] » April 18th 2018, 3:47am

About a year ago my radio just stopped working (actually it'd blow a fuse and kill the dash gauges as well), I'd change the 10amp fuse and go a couple weeks, then it'd blow again. One day just the radio went off but the dash stayed lit up so I just left it. We'll tonight after work the darn clock is on and I turn the radio on, and there is music!! I really have no clue what happened, or how long it's going to last. Just weird.

It's gone again!!! I was completely content with it not working. I just accepted it. Now, a year goes by and it gives me a sign of life. I guess I'll have to seriously look at repairing it. I was upset when I jumped in this morning to find it unresponsive.

Intermittent connection most likely.
When it's not working... check for 12v at the connector.
Should be easy enough to narrow down to wiring or radio.
Better than waiting for it to fix itself. :?

If the radio is blowing fuses but only when turned on, probably an internal short. Toss it and get a new one.

If you need a new radio, I have a factory am/fm cassette with a remote CD player that you can have for shipping.

For mine if I sprayed the power button with electronic contact cleaner (plastic safe) it would function normally again. I had to do that about twice a year.

That stuff works wonders.

I picked up two radios from people on this forum. One was Delco am/fm cassette with remote cd player. The other one was a Delco am/fm CD. I tried them both and preferred the am/fm cd and that is the one that stays in my van. The only thing I upgraded was replacing the factory speakers with 4 JBL speakers, one JBL in each front door and one JBL in each rear cargo door.
