New stereo - do I have everything I need?

I took the stereo out of my old Toyota and want to put it in my astro. I have a harness and some wore connectors. I assume I can take the connectors from the factory stereo and wire those to the new stereo? Or should I buy a compatible wiring kit? Pics below of what I have.

It does make life easyer to use wireing kits , but if you know wich wire goes were it should work , it also depends on wich head unit the van as , there is a few models , and an amp for the rear speaker , oHmage might mtch perfect but if your not using strong amps you should be fine ,and ya those twisters arte not your best option.

I agree with turn solder all wires with heat shrink tube for any electrical connections

I was just planning to hook it into the existing speakers. I don't have a sub or an amp. I guess I was hoping the stereo would just drive the speakers.
I do have a soldering iron but I don't know which wire goes where. I was told one can copy the colouring. Is there more to it than that?

Yes there is , you may end up with a colorful fireworks , go to the crutchfeild and search for both models ,you should be able to find the wireing colors for both , some colors often match but dont take a chance on the sofa ....

When I installed my audio unit, I didn't use a fancy adapter. just solder color to color and you should be fine. Audio harness colors are pretty universal.

Personally I don't like cutting up the factory side of the wiring harness and would buy a cheap adapter for the vehicle and then solder them to the existing harness for the radio. Wiring diagrams are available online in case you need them.

Yup - and searching on this site or using this site's address when you search in a search engine or use Crutchfield or any number of stereo hookup guides will if nothing else...

Get Your Confidence Up to make it work for you.

Properly used wire nuts/electrician's tape are probably better than those blue squeezy wire jobbies.
At least for speakers and then just temporarily.

Update: got a wiring harness and I've soldered all the wires together. Now for the installation.

Yes that's duct tape but I have some electrical tape that I'll put around it.

Next problem: I can't get the old stereo out. It's a Delco Electronics factory stereo. There is a lever on the right and pushing it down allows the right hand side to come forward a bit. But on the left the lever won't go down . Pushing it up feels like it should work but it doesn't. Any suggestions?

My new stereo came with the factory stereo release tools. Yours didn't?

Should be able to just squeeze those clips together and it will pull right out.

I don't have a factory release tool. The "new" stereo actually came from my last car and I didn't install it so I didn't get any box or accessories - just what I could salvage from the old car.

When you say "Squeeze"together, which direction would that be? So on the right, I'm pushing the tab thing down and it releases. on the left up seems right (but doesn't do anything). Squeeze would mean push in towards the centre of the stereo? i.e. the left one gets pushed to the right?

I've been searching youtube but had no luck finding a video showing the removal of this particular stereo model.

Press might be a better word, yes press both of those clips, left and right, downward together at the same time and it should pull out.

The saga continues....

The Haynes manual says the two tabs are to be depressed and the radio will slide out.
I pressed and I pressed. No joy. So I pressed with a screwdriver. Didn't work. So I pressed harder and broke the clip. So now it was me who was depressed.

So I went to the stereo place and the guy lent on it ten times harder than expected. It worked bit in the process he broke the face off and the side clip off. I didn't care as I had no plans for the old radio.

Then I tried to fit the new one and found that this other store sold me the wrong frame. So now I've returned it and ordered the right one online. Arrives by Friday.

Glad you got it removed though, hopefully the new install goes smoothly.
