It's finally in! Double Din install with the Metra kit.

Yeah, I jump to page 28 of your build thread from time to time. I want to keep the dash the original color (blue) but I'm not sure if SEM "Shadow Blue" is close enough. If I do change the color, I'll do it just like you did.

The only thing is you will have to texture it, when you sand it down you lose the factory faux finish.
But you can always paint over the texture with whatever color you wanted, even if it was a shade darker blue it would look killer!

If you want to have paint that matches perfectly ,just bring a flat small part of trim of your van to home depot or such place and have them digitaly scan it and voila , use foam roller or paint brush ,i used the small cover in the back where the rear A/C is when such equiped ( mine does not have it ) , i my case it was near imposible to see where i used the paint , you may ask for a sample as well and test it behind a trim , interior is water based latex from factory anyway .

So here's what I started with:

Looks familiar right? Stock cassette player with a tape adapter and old MP3 player.




Dash bezel off with the template from the Metra 95-3005 kit in place.




Here's what I have to cut out.




I Dremeled off all that I dared. Then I used a file to sneak up on it.




No turning back now!

So far, so good!




Turns out the radio's volume knob rubs against the radio bezel. Time to file again. It wouldn't be a Metra kit if it fit perfectly, would it?




All done! Time for some tunes!

I thought it should stick out farther too, until I dry fitted it all together. It is supposed to sit just behind the stock dash bezel. I even stacked the new radio on the old one and all the mounting hardware and the front lined up. Then I thought about it and realized the stock radio sits completely behind the dash bezel. Fine with me, one less thing to file down.
