Rear door Speaker Cups

Random Question time:

A few weeks ago I replaced the ripped-out rear door speakers in my 95 as part of a kenwood headunit/speaker kit.

The stock speakers had some weird white plastic half- cups installed under the two upper speaker rivets. I forgot to put them back when I put in my new speakers. Two weeks or so pass when I stumble upon them hiding unter my middle bench.

My question is what do these cup things do and should I go back in and install them?

I've run into those in verious cars, my take on them is that there just a water shield to protect the speaker from any rain/condensation dripping on them.

My question would be why were they there in the first place? Important on doors with windows that roll down, but even if you have windows that open outward, the door is still sealed from the weather/water. Curious.

Basically, you don't need them.
