w00t!

Postby neutralhills [OP] » October 11th 2009, 3:44am

My Alpine head unit arrived yesterday afternoon. Got the iDA-X305 digital receiver head unit, KCE-400BT Bluetooth interface, 6x9 3 way speakers for up front, and component speakers for the rear. All Alpine gear. I'll add to it eventually, but I'm just so happy to be able to tear out the Delco deck. Delco fuel pump = good. Delco stereo = very bad.

Everything came from crutchfield.ca along with needed adapters and install guides at no additional charge. We'll see how painful the install is tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving to me.

I got my new Kenwood head unit and Kicker sub the other day. Ran some 4 gauge on the underside to the rear today. I'll go for the amps and deck tomorrow.

2/3 done the install. Worth mentioning...

- Getting the 6x9 on the front driver side out is hell on earth. Try finding a wrench that fits the stupid nut by the front left corner against the windshield. Had to slide a socket over it and use pliers with rubber glued to them to turn it. I didn't bother replacing the nut afterwards.

- Getting the stereo into the Crutchifeld provided adapter kit: 30 seconds. Getting the bloody mass of wiring pushed aside so the head unit would fit: One hour.

- Is there a special place reserved in Hades for whoever designed the back doors on my van? Why the HELL wouldn't the speakers be designed to unbolt from the front and slide out the front? Why do I have to disassemble the entire freakin' door? I was so tired by this point that I gave up on putting the speakers into the pillars. Will fight with that tomorrow.

- Can't get the Bluetooth module to work properly. Have an e-mail in to Crutchfield. Everything else about this install has been a gold plated beyotch so I'm guessing I got a bad part.

Next time I want a new stereo I'm gonna buy a new vehicle. Less work. :banghead:

Got the speakers into the back doors. Sounds awesome. Just have the pillar speakers left to do, but they can wait until the weekend. I'm already eyeing the spot in the back doors where the subs will be going.

I'm going to borrow a new phone from the Telus dealer who has a store across the street from mine tomorrow and see if it will pair with the BT module.

Theres plenty of room in the dash of my 97 to fit everything. The wiring harness adapter, 3 RCA leads, antenna adapter, USB cable and theres even room for a 3.5mm audio jack from the back of the deck if I wanna put one in

I still don't have my whole system in either. Still have to do all speakers, build sub box and install amps. Got power and RCA leads run to the back the other day.

Once I get the BT module working and the extra cabling tied up, yes. Was also wanting to get all the blue LEDs into my console at the same time to make the pics worthwhile.

Oh, c'mon - you can post progress pics and label them as such, you know.

We don't laugh at anyone (okay, I don't...)...I haven't neatened up the cabling on my Bravada yet, so I have no room to talk. The Sirius antenna is stuffed here and there, the AUX cable from the Sirius to the head unit just sits out in front (it is coiled, though) and the iPod cable just sits on the shelf below the head unit.

So c'mon...

Um, yeh. I use my $1000.00 van to carry $30000.00 worth of photo gear and I apparently can't be arsed to take a photo of the stereo install.

Oi.

In the meantime, here are many pictures that were created with the help of my Astro:

Well duh. Like we want you to show us up on photography skills :snooty:  ;)

I can match that $1000 van and $3000 of photo gear.

After selling my new 95 Dodge in 96 I put the $3,500 stereo in my $2000 Toyota P/U. Well 'cept for the 15" woofer. It wouldn't fit behind the seats.

And the electric battery blanket

The blue halo's aren't to bad. It's not any brighter then the dash lights, and I'm pretty sure they can be turned off.
They were set to flicker when ever you used said knob. That bugged me so I turned that feature off.

Frigid 55°???!!!! It was 39° here when I went to bed (no, not when you went out to take pics...I was helping the bf in the basement).

Thanks for the pics ;)

The Sony I have in my Bravada has the bright blue ring around the one dial (it only has one), but you can change the other lights to red. I wish that one would change to red, too - it's a bit bright compared to the red lights.

Now neutral needs to pick up some of that 'spensive camera equipment and take a few!
