Which aftermarket antenna is best for 92 RS

Which aftermarket antenna is best for 92 RS

Postby Pescador [OP] » June 6th 2014, 8:04pm

Hey guys, newbie here and I got a simple question. Is it best to stick with the stock antenna or go with an aftermarket piece?

I've seen these shorter, sometimes carbon fiber looking, antennas that some people say get better reception than the longer factory antenna. Just want to get some opinions here. Thanks.

With the exception of a damaged antenna, or moving the antenna to another location, it is not scientifically possible to improve on the OEM factory quarter wavelength antenna for FM broadcast.

I ran a single strand of copper wire under the window trim. Soldered it to the antenna base where the original one screwed in. Seems like it picks up better to me I sure get alot more stations than I used to.

Just yesterday I added an aftermarket antenna. Not my first choice, but tired of trying to get the OEM one working. It works great if it is not mounted, but hit and miss, mostly miss, when mounted.

Got a Metra CF-UA200 at Advance. So far I am VERY pleased! Now it takes over a minute to scan through all the FM stations - about 20 stations vs. about 5 before. Stations that used to fade in and out are now strong with thumpin' bass and clearer highs!

It needed an adapter to go to the mini antenna connector on our 97's OEM radio. Metra also had that (#AW-GM20), but Advance didn't have it so got it at AutoZone across the street. Total just over $30 plus tax. See my post under "Radio antenna problem" for details.

Also, got an FM transmitter for playing MP3s through the radio. Walmart had one in stock for $13.97, made by Scosche, don't see a part number - just says "TuneIN universal wireless FM transmitter" on the package. Again, a "thumbs up"!
