Wiring Color Codes - All Years

From what I can gather all years of the Astro/Safari use the same color wiring. I haven't checked into the alarm wiring yet and will add it here once I confirm the wiring for all years.

Here are the color codes for the stereo:

Constant 12V+ / Orange
Switched 12V+ / Yellow
Ground / Black
Illumination / Gray
Dimmer / Brown
Antenna / Right Front
Left Front (+) / Tan
Left Front (-) / Gray
Right Front (+) / Light Green
Right Front (-) / Dark Green
Left Rear (+) / Brown
Left Rear (-) / Yellow
Right Rear (+) / Dark Blue
Right Rear (-) / Light Blue

Note: It is best to use an aftermarket wiring harness to install a new headunit/stereo. The above information will be useful for those that have cut wires in the stereo area.

Once I get all the information together I will have all the part numbers available for faceplate kits, antenna adapters, wiring harness, and what ever else is needed. I also believe this info was posted on the old forum but not sure. Will try to look soon.

aaahhhhhh! i just installed some new speakers and tried to figure out the +/- for the dark/light green and tan/grey. looked in my new snazzy service manual to no avail. lo and behold, it's right here in this thread!

my question is, if you've gotten the +/- mixed up what difference does it make? the speakers sound fine so far. looks like i'll probably yank the panels again and get it right....ugh!

with the wires reversed you will have speakers out of phase. this will not be noticeable at higher frequencies and also on lower end speakers. what will suffer will be low end response from the speaker. this will make the stereo sound "tinny" and not produce clear lower notes, drum kicks, bass hits, and lower octave singers will sound "cloudy"
