Heat AC problems question

Heat AC problems question

Postby thelackof [OP] » June 27th 2018, 11:48pm

Hi all,
I was driving from colorado to virginia this last winter and my heat started blowing -cold air-.

Had a bad radiator oil leak so when i took the van into goodyear, i mentioned the heat and they fixed it.
I drove it back the next 3 days to colorado and the heat ran great but the day after arrival, -cold air- again.

Now, it is summer and i tried running the ac.

Front vents just blow -hot air- unless i place the option on AC or max ac, then it blows cold.

But its not cold enough.

Front and back vents seem to be blowing air.

So, is the coldness a freon problem?

And so what about the other options just blowing what seems to be outside air?

I am guessi,g that dyring the winter, the heat blew cold air because it was cold outside.
While the cold option on front vents just blows hot air because it is hot outside.

So, heat is not working. Acis not cold enough.
All directional options and front and rear vents are blowing air, but just not the -correct air-.

Im no expert with vehicles.
Im wondering if this is blend door, thermostat, or other?

Thank you!

Re: Heat AC problems question

Hello,

I think there are a handful of possible issues your van could be having.

Relating to heat: I would check coolant levels and bleed/burp your coolant lines if you're able. It could just be as simple as an air pocket in the lines.

Relating to A/C: Turn the vehicle on with the A/C off. Then have someone turn on the A/C for you and listen/watch for the A/C clutch to engage. If it doesn't engage, the level of refrigerant might be too low (due to a leak), the A/C clutch could be broken, or there could be a loose wired connection. If it does engage and still blows "not cool enough" air, then adding more refrigerant might be a solution. I know some A/C systems don't get very cold, unfortunately.

Hopefully some of this info can be of use to you. Keep us updated!

Best,
Dylan
