AC wasn't working, got new compressor, still no AC

Postby DoubleDeckerStudios [OP] » June 8th 2021, 12:44am

Hey everyone, wondering if any of you guys have had this issue: No AC due to a bad compressor, I ordered this kit off ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/163931681517
And had my local shop install it, still no AC.

What gives right?'
It's like the fan is barely blowing too if that helps.

Does your heat and defrost work?
The fan / blower is a separate system from those parts you replaced. If a shop did the work they should have informed you of the issues.

If you are not getting proper airflow, then it's most likely a blower motor/controller issue or a vacuum control issue.

Heat and defrost seam to be working. Its just blowing warm air on AC or Max AC though.

Wow.. an expensive bad assumption on your part?
And the "shop" can't make it work either? Huh!
You might need to look for a new shop.

By the way.. A/C system is comprised of 3 sub-systems:

1) Refrigerant (compressor, coils, freon, etc)
2) Fan (switches, wiring, fuses, relays, connectors)
3) Vent control (vacuum lines, vent doors)

Don't confuse their operations.. each very different:

Example1: if you have a problem with your fan, then it's not a bad compressor.
Example2: if you have a problem with your vents, then it's not a bad compressor or fan
Example3: if "air blows" but never gets cold (even if coming out wrong vent), then it's probably an issue with refrigerant system and not a bad fan (assuming switch controller in correct position).

Does the compressor kick on? What are your pressures at?

That ac cycle switch is always my first test. Located on the accumulator.

Yep. Easy to jump the electrical connector with a paperclip. If the compressor comes on and cold air blows when you install the paper clip, that switch is bad. Fortunately, it's user-replaceable - no refrigerant leaks when you remove/reinstall that switch.

i agree on solving one problem at a time...is your system fully charged?? compressor wont kick on unless it sees a certain amount of pressure in the system..

It's too bad they didn't make the high pressure switch replaceable without losing refrigerant.

I just did this yesterday and the clutch engages- looks like it's time to test pressures because it still didn't cool.
My mechanic said "I couldn't fix your brakes, so I made your horn louder".
