A/C Switch logic

A/C Switch logic

Postby Broadbent [OP] » September 9th 2012, 6:00pm

Hello,
UK Newbie on a continuing quest to return an AWD Astro Safari to the road. All things now work except the A/C. The clutch went on the old pump and my youngest son bought a new replacement, which we swapped out. At the time he just needed his van running so off he went. As I'm now tasked with selling it, I'd like the A/C to work.

On the right of the instruments is a sliding switch that about halfway down its travel starts to make reference to A/C. Is this the main A/C ON switch, or is there some other master? Midway across the dash there is another switch which seems to control Rear A/C. What does this switch actually do? Does it just route cold air from the front into the back via some hidden fan? Can it switch the A/C on independently of the front A/C switch?

Why do none of them seem to do anything? :confused:

All advice gratefully received.

Too tough eh? Try this one;

My Chilton manual says that a light green wire goes from the cockpit switch to the A/C compressor via an A/C low pressure cut off switch. :? I found the wire, but I can't get any life to the compressor. Can anyone tell me where this Low pressure switch lives? There is no signal from the switch to the compressor, so I guess the low pressure cut off switch may be as far as it gets. I'd like to check this out. Having done so, all I can do then is to take it to a specialist to gas it up to see if it works? :banghead:
