AC leaking fluid?

AC leaking fluid?

Postby John484 [OP] » September 29th 2012, 4:03pm

A little history: 2003 safari carvo van, so no rear climate control. The AC worked great when i bought it 2 months ago, but 2 rides later it stopped blowing as cold as before. I bought a can of refrigerant and attempted to charge it but there was plenty of pressure in it already. I put it on backburner for awhile.
Yesterday: i notice fluid leak under van on passenger side near heater core. It looks like water. I thought it was leaky heater core but there are not the usual symptoms of the coolant smell and no wetness at all around the core area. Upon further inspection i find it appears to be coming from the encased AC thingy protruding from the passenger side firewall, i am unsure what this assy is called. I did some searching here and i still am unsure.
OK, you all can gather that I am not an AC tech! I would love to see a diagram and find out what all of these components are. What is PAG oil, and could this be what is leaking, and could this also be the cause of my lame AC? Even though i am a DIY kind of guy,i have no problem taking it to AC tech, but I would like to have a better understanding of the way it all works.
Thanks in advance guys!
J

Sounds like condensation. Does it happen when you don't use the AC or defrost?
