questions-would it make any difference if the AC aluminum lines were covered by a foam tube? My van has front and rear so I was curious if I should cover the tubes with foam such as they use on outside water pipes? Thanks Mark

They're the high pressure side of the system and get rather hot. Will probably melt the foam to the pipe which would be messy and there's no gain from insulating them.

Insulate them with the proper type of foam. The rear cooler will be more efficient with the insulation.

Probably wouldn't hurt to insulate the low side (after evap probably won't help much either), but I'd leave the high side exposed so it can dissipate as much heat as possible.. which is the main objective of the high side anyway.

While I was under the hood replacing the water pump today I took the time to check out the factory insulation on the A/C high side. The line was insulated with a durable wrap in the areas where it might make contact with wiring. It's insulated to protect the wires not to do anything to the A/C. So if you're missing the insulation in the area of the firewall I'd replace it just to prevent melting wires.

Thanks guys I assumed the lines carried cooled air from the compressor to the rear of the van being from Maine I honestly don't know crap about AC but I am learning. Mark

Ideally the lines should also not touch. In other words you don't want heat being transferred from one to the other so be mindful when they are secured with brackets and such.
