 After using it for a couple days It's growing on me. Very nice. :D The only thing I noticed is links don't open in new tabs (at least some Youtube links a user posted didn't). Might be just me though, I've bummed up enough things this week.

Great job! The only thing missing that I used a lot in the past was when I would have my cursor hover over a post and a pop up window would show a portion of the text from the original post so you got an idea of the content. Other than that looks fantastic!

Go to old gallery and download picture by picture into computer.Right click on picture save as.You have to click on each picture to largest resolution,or it will download tiny pics.
Then go to user control panel/gallery/On left side bar manage personal albums. It will have a create album button. From there download pics you put in computer like first time in old galley.

Yes it is and I had to do it.Takes a while. It a little confusing at first. The sub albums are the ones that will appear above the main album. In sub-albums you can put an album in an album.I never figured out how to put an album inside the main album like the old system.

AstroAustin, I hope that you take this post as constructive criticism and don't get defensive, but this redesigned site just doesn't work for me.

AstroAustin wrote:For for those viewing the site at very low-resolution, they view the site like this. (Probably similar to what you're seeing)

Observe how the site is forced to become crowded and unpleasant because your resolution is so small it has nowhere to go.

I understand your concern but in this respect there is not a solution that would please everyone. In addition, I have considerably more planned for the side columns so they will be a vital part of the "dead space".

Sorry, but the longer I have to see that damned right hand column the more irritating it gets. You seem to think that everyone should have a huge high res monitor, when very few folks can afford such a luxury. I'm sure that I'm not the only user who would appreciate it if you would give us a choice between your new "improved" 3 column format and the old 2 column format.

In my case, because I do a lot of writing and PhotoShop editing, I have two screens. My primary screen is a vertical 1024x1280 and my secondary is a horizontal 1280x1024. Because I am getting along in age, I need to keep font sizes fairly large to avoid eyestrain. I am running Firefox 8.0.

In your previous design, the User Menu was at the top of what is now the middle column in the post editor. It's now in that damned new right column, and it's the only thing there. Please move it back to above the editor and at the very least put the edit screen back to two columns. It squeezes the window to a very narrow width and leaves a lot of wasted space below the edit window. The attached screen shot shows how it displays on my monitor.

142

Note that the banner ad at the top of the page also crowds out your Astro-Safari.com logo.

I really think that you need to rethink this push to design the site for large monitors when most of us don't have them, and won't have them in the near future. None of the web sites I have designed is more than 1024 pixels wide, and most of them are still 800 pixels wide, because I don't want to make it hard for users of older computers to view those pages.

As one of my programming instructors used to say, "He who rides on leading edge often gets cut."

I'm sorry you put so much effort into a new design without testing it on some users before you made it the only choice. It wasn't broke, and it didn't need fixing.

I view this site on everything from my phone to a 24" screen and the photos are always crammed into the center no matter what the resolution is. The colors also create a lot of eye strain. I also dont like the old school font. I am happy to have a place to post and hang out.....nothing is ever perfect I suppose.

I may be willing to do this when and if I have time but I'm sure we're going to lose alot of good info because it is too complicated. Posts that are a "how to" like my steering box thread will suck without pics. How many threads are like that that the original poster does not visit here anymore?

The layout is fresh looking, but... I'm at 1680x1050 resolution and it still seems scrunched up. The area with user avatar and information, in each post, is far too big for even this screen resolution.

Where is the "New Posts" button?
Topic preview is a good thing, but... It can, and will, slow down a forum over time. I've seen this happen on a lot of forums over time.

Other than that, it's good to see a 2012 version of the forum. Glad to see thing may look up around here. Hopefully we will still have access to the good information that was on the previous versions.

Don't like this new layout. Doesn't matter if I'm on a high res at work or on my netbook. Too much white space left and right of the threads.

Topic Previews should be working now. Rather site-wide too! You can see them in action in the topic listings of any forum, in the "Recent Topics" at the top of the homepage, in the "Similar Topics" at the bottom of any topic page, and in any of the "Topicality" search pages (ie. Unanswered, Unread, Active, etc.).
