Stiffening Rear Suspension

Stiffening Rear Suspension

Postby Deadly Sones [OP] » September 2nd 2013, 12:50am

Hey guys,

I have a 91 Safari Cargo van. 4.3L. I'm using it as a car audio competition vehicle. I currently have the "composite" leaf looking spring.

I have been told there are kits that I can just "bolt on". Are these any good? I'm talking an additional 2000+lbs back there. I have already added 186ft of 1.5" steel tube for the cage and the factory suspension has held up well. However, once the 11 sheets of 1" MDF, 8 sheets of 3/4" MDF, 8 15" subs, amps and 10 batteries are in. I'm gonna need MUCH more.

I was also thinking of switching out the "composite" springs for the OS leaf springs. Good idea? Where might I get a set that would fit? Are they the same as on a burban? My friend is scrapping one.

I'm open to all suggestions on how to properly beef up this rear end.

Thanks for the links. I'll def look up what they have.

These are suppose to work with the composite (mono) springs...

Are they any good? It might not be over 2K lbs but damn near 1500+ I'm sure.

I suggest you make a custom spring pack and beef up your axle as well with a weld on truss. Then do the 11" drum and 3500 series caliper upgrades.

Thanks for the mod info. I'll def look into beefing up the drums. Does it require a different axle? Do you possibly have a link to where I can buy them?
