2005 GMC Safari 2WD

Postby bigt20to7 [OP] » December 3rd 2018, 5:42am

It's a slow work in progress. With 4 kids it's very slow. She has just about every problem listed on this site, so I'm sure I will be here alot! I call her Vanessa.

Owned the van for almost a year. This picture is from a Craigslist ad, where I found it.

A buddy gave me these old wheels, I put new tires on them.

I was able to get them to shine again.

Welcome!

Nice van. Looks a lot like my ‘05, except mine’s AWD.

Good looking wheels. Van seems to be clean candidate. Slow is OK.

Been busy getting the van running and driving right. But I did get a chance to do a good polish and ceramic coating on the wheels. The center caps are about a year old but just got the lug nuts. More to come very soon. I got new door handles and door pins. Had to do the white letters while they were on the bench. I'm happy with her.

It's been 3 years now I have had this van. I'm still in love with her. So far, I have done new heads (#6 had a broke valve spring), all seals and gaskets in the the intake, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, TPS, IAC, control arm bushings, idler arm, tie rods, air and fuel filter, water pump, fan clutch, new front exterior door handles, new doors pins (both sides), new power window motor (passenger side), new power window switch (both sides), 16x8 with slightly stretched 215/70/R16, 1/4" spacers in the front (to clearance the calipers), center caps, lug nuts, console from a 2017 Chrysler Town and Country, and a Wolo Jukebox musical horn. First time I listed all the parts that went into the van so far. (Reminder to self, Get the old lady some flowers. Lol) Next I have parts on the shelf to change the A/C dryer, orifice tube, and some vacuum lines. I also have hinges and lift supports to gulwing the sliding door. The slider lightly touches the tires when fully open. Once I gulwing the door I will be putting the spacers in the rear. I love the look on the front, but the tires rub when turning tight. Not bad and gets better as the tires wear. Might step down a size next set? I have found a donor van, but not sure if I can get it home. We will see what happens.

Great work on refurbishing it. I like your choice of wheels too.

Vanessa died on me at the red light 2 days ago. Spinning fast just will not start. Not too worried about her, kind of glad it happened. Gives me a reason to get back into it. I got a really cool radio. Touch screen, wifi, bluetooth, back camera, lots of bells and whistles. I'm going to have to move the A/C controls, rear A/C control, and rear wiper switch, so it will fit like factory. Dieing to get it all hooked up. But, the big news is that I just drove home another van! A 1998 Chevrolet Astro AWD! This thing is a beast, 7 inch lift, Warn winch, 32/11.50/18, roof rack, awning, rear air bags, drilled front rotors, back up camera, dual 90 amp hour batteries, LEDs, and it's just cool.

I will post more info and pics of the vans....

Have you seen the Metra double DIN kit? Don't have to move anything and it looks GOOD.

I went alittle overboard with the screen. I measured the dash and order this to fit the size. It will fill the whole dash and will fit flush like factory. Yours came out awesome!

Screenshot_20210513-221625_Gallery.jpg

The overall measurements of the radio are 6"x10".

I "borrowed" the battery from the riding mower the other day and checked the radio out some. Works good so far. When it starts up it has the GMC logo. I love it. I will be installing it in the safari this weekend.
