Brand new here and intrigued with the Astro van

Postby Miserly Man [OP] » December 17th 2010, 4:35pm

Hi-looking at picking up an 03 LT with leather and AWD. We live in an area where the weather changes quick and I generally find myself on fire roads.

Anyway, just to wanted to thank you all for this site and the wealth of information it has.

With an AWD, it won't let you down on the bad fire roads. Snow or mud, these vans with AWD are just awesome.

Welcome, I personally am a fan of the Generation One vans but, this was one of the best machines that GM built from start to finish. I think you'll really enjoy owning one.

So, there WAS an 03 available at Al Serra in in Colorado Springs. There it was sitting on autotrader..so I call up before making the 40 mile drive...and wouldn't you believe it...the van was sold.

Well, it's still on the autotrader as we speak. Bait and switch? You betcha!

Not an isolated incident at all. There were three other dealers who had the same situation. One had a van 55 miles to the north of the stated location. Why do people hate dealers? This is one reason.

Out here in the Denver area, all cars seem overpriced. I see prices all over the US which are far lower on the 03-05 vans. But no, here in Denver we charge a premium...right?

Anyway, wife and I drove two rigs today. 03 Seinna and an 03 Astro van. To be fair, the astro was beat to hell. I could tell one or both idler arms/bushings were shot. Shocks were gone, tires were garbage, carpets a disaster, leak in the windshield...

But, even after 150k hard miles, the transmission was tight and the motor fired true. Underneath all the abuse was a happy van.

There were other little niggling things...but we were just looking to drive this model of van.

We are totally mixed. We really like the Sienna (oversize camry) for its style, MPG and ease of use. But, we like the space and simplicity of the Astro.

I really like the easy steering and manueverabilit of the astro. Oh, we tried out the AWD in a gravel parking lot-very cool.

So I have had it now for a few months.

It's fantastic. My only wish? Wish I had a 2005 with 31 inch tires. :)

Other than that...it's great.
