This is my first Astro van. It's a 2002 with over 200,000 miles.
Mostly highway miles where the previous owner commuted
between Massachusetts and Florida. The story goes on one of
the trips back from Mass. it just quit running. The daughter's
boyfriend is a self appointed "certified mechanic". Besides,
the two needed somewhere to sleep. So the "certified mechanic"
convinced the owner (daughter's mother) that it needed a
timing chain and to allow them to sleep in the van while
said timing chain is being replaced.
101184101182
Never minding the rusty
trail of water pump leakage on the passenger's side engine
compartment.
101186101188
Or, the leakage from the rear water jacket
between the head and intake manifold. Anyway, long story
short... mom got tired of the charade and kicked them out
of the van. Leaving the "certified mechanic" boyfriend claiming,
"All it needs is the timing set". His story is that he tore it down
and discovered it did not need a timing chain. But, he replaced
it anyway. He said that he also took the top of the motor apart.
Although, only one valve cover gasket was replaced.
101180
The engine has not ran since. Nor, was it ever reassembled
completely. But, it all appears to be here.
101190
I have not done much yet other than test it's clean-ability
101176101178
The wheels look as though they are going to be a breeze
to clean up. I have some other custom wheels... maybe later.
I also took off the luggage rack
101170
exposing rust at every bolt. Also, there was not much left
of the battery tray and the inner fender is covered in a
surface rust.
101174101172
All this for only $500. I think, I did pretty good! What do
you think?
Next is to remove the running boards before someone
breaks their leg and remove the upper cowl and get
out all the leaves and debris.
So, there will be lots of pics if I can figure out what
is the best way to post them.
It runs faster down hill

For $500 bucks it's hard to go wrong.

Nice find.
I see the rear A/C outlets, so it might have some other upscale items too.
I would not be too concerned about the 200K, but sitting for a long time probably was not good for it.
Best wishes.
