Hello, 2004 Safari RWD . Sorry for no pic (for now). As the name implies this is my wife's van. She does in home child care and loves this van for ease of getting kids in and out. She had a 1998 Astro for a couple of years but it had to many spendy mechanical issues. We found this on a used car lot in May 2013 with 87000 miles. It was a 1 owner trade in with all paperwork/maintenance records. The car lot owner was about to have shocks put on. It is a VERY reputable used car lot and they only sell vehicles that are 100% road worthy. I convinced him to sell it to us with worn shocks so I could put Bilsteins on it. I put a set on a 1990 Econoline several years ago and will put NOTHING else on a top heavy vehicle. I found a set of 17 inch Yukon wheels for it and had 235/65/17 Cooper CS4's mounted. Had slight front fender rub when turning into driveways. I carefully pulled out on center of front fender wheel openings. With very little flexing of fenders = no more rub = happy wife. I put in plugs,cap/rotor (brass of course) and wires last September. 7000 miles later = some recent misses (bucking) with arcing inside of cap. I have a United Wire Products Distributor on order. Thanks to this site I feel confident that this is the right move and the best choice of manufacture to solve the problem. I am somewhat concerned about the "Relearn Procedure". I do not own a scan tool. A friend has one that I can borrow but don,t know if it will do what is necessary. I have seen a few YT videos instructing of distributor install. I hope I don't have to get it towed to dealer for Relearn procedure. I was stunned to find that opening the lift gate did not turn on dome lights. The '98 Astro did. Again, thanks to this site, I found the wire connection in jack compartment and installed a barn door switch (from P & P) on the right dutch door. Planning to do coolant flush and replace thermostat this week. Thanks to this site I made the decision to purchase an AC Delco stat. It seems that all stat problems go to "fail open" and I didn't want to put in crappy aftermarket FS stat. I've had problems with them on another vehicle and TRY to learn from 1st mistake. I am hearing an occasional THUMP just as I release brakes after a stop. Thanks to this site, again, I will be lubing splines on drive shaft. Binding splines makes total sense as I have been wondering what it could be. THANKS To This Site AND THE MEMBERS Sorry for run on. Some day I will learn how to break up paragraphs without deleting.
