Anyone have experience with TRW idler arms?

Postby Big_kid [OP] » April 4th 2009, 2:12am

Hey all,
My van failed inspection today for the right side idler arm. I'm going to try to stay away from the cheap arms if I can. Advance has Moog for $103.99, TRW's for $75.99. Things here are tight, so I may well end up cheap, but I was wondering how much difference there is between the two big names? In searching here & the archives every post I read leaned toward Moog, but I don't recall any mention of TRW. I've had the van since June and put less than 500 miles on it.

Thoughts?

I've used Moog in the past with good luck . Nothing against TRW but at the time I had the chance to compair the two and the Moog won. Parts replaced were Idler and Drag link. Sorry don't remember the price however my neighbor works for Autozone and I got a deal (15% off). Good luck!

Hi Big_kid

Moog would be my suggestion here as well. If you do decide to go for Moog, then make sure the part has (Problem Solver) stamped on the bottom of the Idler Arm. Here is a link the Problem Solver part numbers for your 1995 Astro:
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carco ... ttype,7328

TRW hasn't been known to stand up well with the front ends we have in our vans.

Thanks guys, Moog Problem Solver it is. It looks like Rock auto is going to be around $90 with shipping. Advance is $103, I'll have to see what the shop discount is when I get to my part time job in a bit. I like the idea of supporting Rock auto, but I need this done soon. The wife is a big fan of local tangible brick and mortar stores, I'll let you know where it comes from. Fed Ex has had trouble finding my house more than once.
