1st time start

Ok today i primed the oil pump(rotated engine by hand 90 degrees so oil can get all over) I did turn the starter for a few seconds . Tomorrow i will start her up. Now my question is do you have to upgrade the V6 starter? This one sounds like its struggling to turn the motor. Although it was stiff to turn by hand. But i was able to turn it. And my battery has been sitting for a while. Moment of truth tomorrow!

Even though the 350 starter and the 4.3 starter have the same nose cone the V8 starter has a heaver duty motor on it. Just be sure that you're making a good connection at the starter. The V6 starter will usually work just fine for a stock 350.

The starters are the same between the V6 and the V8. goto the napa web site http://www.napa.com and look them up they are the same part #2465022. you might need a higher cranking amp battery. I got a 800cca battery from napa in Oviedo for $89.

Hey bert was your engine slow to turn over even though it was a fresh rebuild? I can hear the spark in the distributor also when it turns. I havent connected the fuel pump fuse yet. Just want to make sure everything is alright before i do.

But remember I had a new starter with a 800 cca New battery and stock 8.5-1 compression ratio. That will make a difference. How old it your starter and battery, and what is the cca (cold cranking amps) of the battery ? Do you know what your comression ratio is ?

Well i hooked everything up this evening and still the engine still drags! I got under and looked at the starter and noticed it was still engaged. So i went and bought some shims and that problem is fixed but the engine still drags when turning. The starter whines as it turns. The bottom end is all by the book as far as torque specs go. What could it be?

You need to test the starter while its under load. Just because its works off the engine doesn't mean it will work while on the engine.

When you turn the key and watch the engine turn it goes very slow. Almost as if something internally is too tight. Everything internally is to spec. Or maybe a bad starter.
Motor oil 5w30.

Like astro355 said you can't get a good test on the starter unless its under a load. A bad starter that won't even turn a old wornout motor could still spin freely off of the vehicle.. I know this is probably a dumb question but did you use assembly lube when you assembled the engine?

Sounds like your best bet is to have the starter tested at Autozone, Advanced, O'reilly's, etc.

Yes everything internally has assembly lube. Got a new starter today and the old one tested ok but got a new one under warranty. I will try it again today.

If your starter turns slowly you could measure your battery voltage with a multimeter and see if its low. Should be around 12.5 ---- 13 volts , if the battery is only like around 11.4 volts that will make it crank slowly

Ok the starter is ok now. Now it will turn over still slow but better(not as noisy). Now it won't fire up. I thought i had the distributor 180 off and tried it but it will not crank. I do have spark in all cylinders.

Do you have fuel. You should be able to see the injectors spraying as you turn the engine over. Does it try to start or back fire or any thing.

When i moved the distributor 180 degrees it did pop a couple of times. so i moved it back to its original position. Sill nothing. And yes the injectors are working. They pulse as it cranks.
