350 chevy question

Postby markmitch [OP] » April 11th 2014, 1:07am

is it possible to bolt 88 TBI heads and TBI intake onto a 75 350 without any issues with compression ratio and such?. My neighbor asked me this today I did not know.

I was actually wondering about that myself the other day, if an "old school" block would work with more modern heads.

yes it may even raise compression ratio since the older blocks had bigger combustion areas to lower comp ratios for smog. old heads were 76 cc and newer are like 64 cc.
thats what I read online.

But if you raise the compression, where will you get gas with high enough octane to run it without detonation problems?

You'll raise up about 1.2 points, which isn't a ton considering it's probably an 8:1 wonder unless it has pop up pistons. I'd probably even go as far as to run .015 head gaskets just because the pistons are way likely to be down in the hole more than they should be to be good for quench.
