Normal compression readings?

Normal compression readings?

Postby alacran1 [OP] » August 22nd 2016, 5:09pm

Two years ago my dads van had a valve bend on cylinder 1. I took the heads to a machine shop and they machined the heads and installed everything new ready to be installed for $140. I put everything back on together started on the first crank. I took it to get smog twice with it passing right away. Couple days ago it had a cel and a p0301. I did a compression check to see if it wasnt the heads and it read 150 on all cylinders. It turned out to be the cylinder 1 spark plug wire that was touching against the exhaust cylinder toasting it and cracking it. Replaced the wires and she now runs smooth. I never did a compression test before on the van after the heads replacement. Is 150psi on all cylinders good?

150 is pretty good for an old motor with im assuming a lot of miles. Typically you are looking for all of the cylinders to be within 10% of each other. if they are all at 150, then you are in great shape.
