Fuel in oil

Fuel in oil

Postby Chey64 [OP] » February 1st 2011, 2:58pm

I have an 94 Astro AWD 4.3

I don't drive it much, and as a matter fact I'm trying to sell it.

The thing is, since I don't drive it much, I would start it let it run to warm it up. Now I smell fuel in the oil.

This motor was swapped in by some Shade trees that I paid to do the job.

New plugs, wires, cap and rotor.

It runs fine down the highway, just that when it is idling it runs rich.

MAP sensor?

I think the presure regulators on those leak and do that but not sure. I would change the oil and filter and see if the smell returns.

How long has it been since an oil change?
Regulators may leak ,,,fuel injector may leak , and the design of engines allow gas vapor into the crankcase which is why there is PCV valve which helps expel some of the vapors , If you just let engine run at idle till warm and rarely drive it , it likely has a build up of fuel vapor in oil , time to change the oil as it is diluted with gas and will not protect as it should

1. Oil and Filt change. (for sure)

2. Hook scan tool up and see what the live data is. Possibly it may be easy as the PCM is not going closed loop.

Definitely run it down the highway after an oil/filter change and see if you smell anything. These will tend to get a fuel smell if only idling, even if the oil level doesn't increase at all.

I believe that I have TBI.

Is CPI meaning port injection?
