Oil pressure

Oil pressure

Postby alexalexanders [OP] » February 1st 2011, 1:31am

My 94 gets 60lbs of oil pressure at start up and stays at 45-50 at cruise. It sits a 20lbs at idle but goes right up when i hit the gas. Is bad? I use 5w30 oil and a AC delco filter. it at full line on dipstick and runs great but the idle pressure concerns me. I saw somewhere that there is a oil pressure temp sender that could be giving false reading. What should i do? Anybody have this problem?

That is normal , higher rpm will increase the PSI , 20 psi at idle is normal , it is higher at start up because the oil is cold ,

My '93 is just above the red mark(10#) when in drive sitting at the stop light......but she goes up once you press the gas......probably the stock oil pump with 250+ miles.

only need 4 to 7 psi per 1000 rpm

guages and senders not always accurate anyways

lots of them dont work any more

such as in my daily driver 91 s-10 4.3l pickup

its pegged past 80 all the time when its running

i dont care, at 206k miles it runs perfect and reliably on freeway trips and everything all the time

if its gonna chuck the oil pump or bearings then its gonna do it regardless whether oil pressure guage works or not

Apparently oil pressure is one of my little fetishes.what ever the van gets next round V-6 V-8 it will be built with a HV oil pump.I really want a V-8 But I got all the high performance parts on my V-6 already. So I torn.It would be cool having a 350 HP or so V-6 Then give it 10 lbs of boost.Little porting little cam headers mercruiser intake adapted for TBI Flash the chip. :layrubber:
