Engine starts wont run

THE MAGICBUS WONT RUN! Let me give ya'll a little back ground info and then please give me some HELP ! I'm back in Puerto Rico, its been about 2 1/2 years since I've driven the MagicBus,I got here and It would not start, the last time it had been driven was about 4 months ago, my brother in-law came and took it for a spin and said it started and run just fine, so after a couple of things were checked out I determined the fuel pump had gone out so I promptly replaced it. (HERE IS THE PROBLEM) after putting gas in it I tried to start it and once gas got to the system it spit and hickupped but wouldn't start so I decided to depress the excelorater and WAHLAH it started but as soon as I let off the gas it died, I continued the process with the same results, as long as I gave it gas it ran although pretty rough, still it Wont start with out depressing the excelorater and it runs like crap and dies as soon as I let off the gas. ANY SUGGESTIONS OR COMMENTS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Guys -- anything easy / common after changing fuel pump ?

Could it be like when a fuel injected system runs out of gas ?
Need to turn the key to start a bunch to get enough gas back in the system ?
Maybe the pump was not the problem ?
Ever change the fuel filter ?

I think this may take some back and forth with the hive and OP.
Looks like this may be a vacation home van.
And may sit unused for ???? amounts of time.

I'm no mechanic, I just try to find info to help.

Clogged fuel injectors may be in play, especially if the gas that sat in there turned to varnish and gummed them up.
If so, you would want to change out the fuel filter. Before you install the new one, fill it as full as possible with Techron Fuel System Cleaner that you normally pour into the tank. I'm sure you can figure out how to best get everything in there without dumping all the Techron out, and some will spill so be prepared. Turn it over, let it run for only a couple seconds and shut it down. Restart an hour later and see how it goes.

How much throttle are you giving it when it starts? Have you checked your spark plugs and spark color? Checked your fuel pressure? Changed the fuel filter when you changed the pump? Check engine light work? Do you have an OBD2 scanner? Any codes?

If the ignition system is up to par, I would be looking at the injection system for leaks, unfortunately the regulator and injectors/hoses are under the intake. If it's got a lot of miles on it, I would be looking at replacing the fuel injectors/spider with the upgraded injectors anyway, they live a hard life inside the intake.

Thanks for all the input, ITS ALIVE & WELL!!! I did change the fuel filter when I installed the fuel pump, what I did was bleed the air out of the lines and system by hooking up a line to the shrader valve on the fuel line and did the 2 second wait 10 seconds on & off with the ignition until I pumped about s gallon of gas out of it,removed the bleeder hose cranked her over and she started right up and is running like a Singer sowing machine.
