Align your timing marks on the crank pulley and distributor.

Take out #1 spark plug. Use your finger to find the compression stroke, then use a something that won't break off or scuff the piston, to find the very top. If you have a friend, they can turn the crank. Takes two seconds.
How many sensors, fuses or computers does a Bw4472 need? Zero.

^^ This works if your distributor is already lined up.
(Crank turns twice for every one distributor revolution)

If distributor is not lined up:
Use your finger in #1 (to find compression stroke)... then align timing mark to top dead center.

Sidenote: When I'm dropping in a distributor, in a fresh engine, for the first time.. I sometimes find it easier to just guess (50/50 shot), and flip if if I guess wrong.

Oh, well yeah if the dizzy is out and you are setting up the engine the best way is to finger it. The OP never really specified thats why I said timing marks.
