Can someone tell me what this is (fuel pump related)

I'm changing out the fuel pump on my 94 Safari, I'm reusing the old sending unit and just replacing the pump, this was in between the pump and the line out, I'm assuming it's an accumulator of some sort. Question is do I need it, the kit came with a short rubber hose and clamps to replace it which I'd rather do because this thing was just friction fit and I'm not sure how well it held a seal which may have contributed to my fuel pressure issue.

It's a fuel pulse dampener.

You will probably get differing opinions on whether it's necessary or not, but when I changed my fuel pump I went with the provided hose and haven't had any problems.

Keep in mind that it's a special submersible fuel hose and regular fuel line won't work.

Awesome thanks, I just used the hose the kit came with, started up and ran fine, see what happens I guess.

interesting... I have never seen that before. My fuel pump had already been replaced before I got my van though. Or is that a first gen thing?

The hose that came with the kit is correct so it will be fine.

I'm not sure about newer models but those dampeners were on all fuel injected GM vehicles since the 80's.
