4.3L Engine Crossreference

4.3L Engine Crossreference

Postby HootenWeb [OP] » April 20th 2019, 1:29pm

Hello fellow Astrosafarians,

I have run a search on the forum for "engine" + "cross" trying to figure out what year 4.3L engine will work for my 99 as I look for a donor. I read every single post where someone said "crossed my mind" and "engine"... :banghead:

Is there a post already covering this that I just can't find? Or am I searching the wrong thing?

Thanks to Wikipedia I have this info:
85-86 LB1 4BBL
86 LB4 TBI - Unique to this year
87-92 LB4 TBI
90-92 LU2 TBI
92-94 L35 CPI
95 L35 CPI - Unique to this year
96-02 L35 SCPI
03-05 LU3 MPFI

So based in this I would say I am safe with any 4.3L from 96-02. Is this correct?

What about blazer, Jimmy, Sonoma, bravada or S10 motors? Same years?

Swap my intake manifold with a new gasket and life should be good... Is this correct?

I have a 2002 AWD hi-top with a good motor and have been contemplating borrowing that and looking for an LS for it but only want to go down that road if it will work. I can't have two down vans or SWMBO will have me living in them.

Thanks for any and all help.

~Webster

Yes, you could use a 4.3 from a Bravada, or Jimmy, or Sonoma, or S-10 too. Ideally since you have AWD, I'd get a complete engine that is set up as a 4wd motor. This would save you from having to change the oil pan and possibly the oil pick up tube. However, plan on changing the oil dip stick and maybe the valve covers to allow for oil fill.
My 88 2wd Astro currently has a 92 S-15 Sonoma 4.3 engine in it. Fit like it was made for it too. 8-)

Thanks MarkMitch.

There is a 2003 motor for sale here with 82k on it out of a 2WD S10 for $350

As 90Safari mentioned I would need to then collect all of the AWD parts to make the motor work/fit.

LeeAnn as soon as I figure how to edit my post I will correct the info.

You already have all of the AWD parts on your present engine. Just swap them over.
