Magnetic oil pan plug

Magnetic oil pan plug

Postby Bikley [OP] » June 25th 2019, 3:10pm

Has anyone used these Eco plug things? The last time I changed the oil I had to get an oversized plug but it's still not sealing completely.

I saw these and it seems like a really cool idea, so I'm wondering if they work.

One problem I see is if you take your van to a shop for oil changes, they might not know how to use it/damage it/lose it.

On your oversize plug, does it have a gasket/plastic washer/o-ring? If it's just steel on steel, there will be seepage.

Never used one of those. The Jeep Liberty CRD guys talk about a Fumoto valve replacement for the drain plug. I've never used one of those, either, but those guys love them.

I won't be taking it in for oil changes anymore. That's what got me into this mess. I had it done when I had the tires mounted and the guy torqued it down too hard and stripped the threads.

The oversized one does have a gasket but it still drips.

This thing has no threads, its like a rubber stopper and it gets held in place by a heavy duty magnet.

I don't think the Fumoto valve would fix this issue, but it is pretty cool. If I end up getting a new pan I would probably use one for the convenience.

On that score is there a difference between pans in rwd and awd?

On that one, I have no idea. I don’t have a RWD to compare to

I miss my old rwd 88, it had a lot of charm.

One of my pie in the sky ideas is to find an old shorty and turn it into a V8 Corvair.
