Ebay Radiator Review! (with pics)

Ebay Radiator Review! (with pics)

Postby joeg [OP] » July 18th 2019, 10:13pm

My new radiator arrived unbelievably fast.
Here is the ebay link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-Row-For-Chev ... 2749.l2649

It's a 3 row, 2 1/4" thick core, all aluminum construction. It feels quite light to hold given its size.

I saw it recommended by WinnieVan and some others and I can see why.

Look at the quality of these welds.

I ordered a Derale (us motorworks) high flow coolant pump and a hayden severe duty fan clutch, I'll post pics of those as well when they arrive.

Based on YOUR measurement.. it appears the core is actually 1 5/8" thick.
I wonder how they arrive at 2 1/4" thick?

Looks like a great upgrade radiator.
I may consider this for my 2000.

I suspect the tanks are probably 2 1/4" thick?

Hah, i was too busy taking the picture and didn't actually look at the measurement... well that's a problem, their listing said the core was 2 1/4". I'll reach out to them and see whats up.

what a bummer, it looks awesome other than that.

Is there any way to visibly confirm its a 3 row radiator?

This one looks identical to yours, and is advertised as 2-row with core measurement closer to your tape measurment.

interesting, it's listed as the same brand too... I bet they just shipped the wrong one. I sent them a message and waiting to hear back, hopefully they can make it right. I checked the L x W of the core and it matches what the listing said.

lol I never measured mine either -- I guess I should check. Nevertheless, it works great even under heavy throttle at load speed on the trail!

If you wouldn't mind, I'd be curious to know if they just intentionally mislead or if mine was an exception.

I just checked and this is indeed a 2 row, not a 3 row as advertised. and just for the sake of collecting data, the tube length is about .75"

Re: Ebay Radiator Review! (with pics)

Postby joeg [OP] » July 20th 2019, 2:03am

I ordered this one from "coolingmaster" after confirming with the seller that the depth is 2.05" (they didn't have a real pic, but they sent me their "product drawing" which had every measurement and they say it's really a 3 row. Who knows with this chinese ebay stuff, but I'll post it when it arrives. My plan is to sell whichever is the smaller of the 2 after the new one shows up (or one of them if they're the exact same, which is entirely a possibility).

https://www.ebay.com/itm/152923583574?ul_noapp=true

Here's what I noticed about every single listing for an aluminum radiator like this on ebay (and there are many). They all ship from the same 2 locations, san bernardino, CA and monroe, NJ. I have a feeling that every single one of those "unique" ebay accounts is related. The new one I ordered is from monroe NJ, the old one from san bernardino. So maybe I'll get lucky and they won't be the exact same thing. Fingers crossed.

Honestly, if they had just listed it correctly, I still would have bought it and it looks like great quality, so I wouldn't have been disappointed... but now it's just a matter of principle, in my mind I got set on a 2"+ 3 row amount of overkill and anything less just won't tickle my pickle, lol.

They didn't. The listing in the first post says 1⅝" core.

If the new one comes in at 3-row and 2.05" thick, I might consider buying one for my '05.

Gotcha. I didn't look at it right away, so I saw the updated listing.

yes, they offered me a partial refund and I asked them to update the listing so others don't get duped.

Their customer service was pretty responsive, and it seemed like they REALLY didn't want me to return it, so they made it right.

This is the "product drawing" that the coolingmaster seller gave me when I asked him to confirm it's 2.05". It shows the thickness as 52mm (2.05"). And he confirmed it is a 3 row. I'll post pics and verify all that when it arrives.

Still waiting on radiator and fan clutch, but the new, high-flow coolant pump arrived.

This is the Derale US5077H (US Motor Works) high-flow pump.
https://www.jegs.com/i/Derale/259/US5077H/10002/-1

I got it from the Jegs ebay store for $42+shipping.

Here's a few pics... and man, is it HEAVY (cast iron). I haven't seen the stock one up close, but this looks pretty beefy.

I notice it says US5077 on it and not US5077H... the box says H, the packing slip says H, is there any way to visually know this is really a highflow pump? I emailed Derale to have them verify what the casting should say.

They replied back this morning:
Thank You for contacting US Motor Works.

You have not received the incorrect part, the high flow uses the same casting, however the impeller within the unit is switched out to a high flow unit. We have the backing plate spot welded to impeller on the high flow models.

Sincerely,
Technical Support / Customer Service Team

so it looks like we're good to go, they just use the same cast for both models.

Ok, the new radiator from Cooling Master arrived today exactly as they described. I also like the build quality a tiny bit better than the original one, also they packed it in styrofoam so the fits didn't get damaged, the other one was shipped in cardboard. Also, this one came with a 1.3bar cap, the other had a 1.1.

Also, It was originally listed as 180-something, but I used the "make offer" and they accepted 165. So don't buy it at full price, lol.

I went a little pic happy, but I figure there are so many nearly identical sellers on ebay, now we at least have some data for the next guy.

Now if any of you would like the one from the first post (1 5/8" TWO row), I paid $165 originally, it's never even been out of the plastic wrapping except for the pics I took here. Local pickup in the San Diego area, make me a reasonable offer and it's yours. It looks beautiful, I just wanted even more overkill. What I've learned since moving to SoCal from the east coast is then when you come to the desert, you best come correct. Unforgiving out there.

Based on your review and pics, I just offered the seller $165 and it was accepted, so I should get mine next week.

Is it strange that I’m actually looking forward to replacing my radiator?
