Re: Remote start

They are most commonly installed up under the drivers side of dash , but could be behind kick panel ,, it is actually wherever the installer decided to put it , since the astro did not come with a factory remote start it will be an aftermarket setup and most likely not compatible with the factory key fob as it is only for remote keyless entry and not for starting the van , aftermarket systems should have a toggle switch in the same area that disables the remote start for safety reasons

Thank you Phantom,No disable switch that I can find,When it quits snowing I'll get a pic of the Warning sticker under the hood,so I guess I'll have to trace down the manufacturer,& see about getting a fob & codes from them, should be a serial # & product code on the unit(if I can find it). :)

DEI is Directed Electronics Inc..

They are the parent company of many brands of remote start systems of which Viper is one of them ,,, you'll need to locate the main brain box and get numbers off it to know what make and model your unit is

It can vary but usually about 8-9 inches long 4-5 in wide 1-2 in thick and many wires coming out of it

Normally the brain gets put above where your feet would go on the drivers side. You can also trace from the ignition wires that would go to the key. Thats where the start wires will be spliced in.

Also, there should be a pin switch to sense when the hood is open. Although since they corrode, they tend to get disconnected. If that works though, it shouldnt start with the hood open.

Appreciate the replys,& so far DEI....is being no help, got hung up on yesterday for no reason & haven't been able to get through since, they have a help site & so far no replies by e-mail either.I'm off tomorrow & will get under the dash & see whats up.& got 2 more ?'s for Phantom...If it is a Viper system, did they usually incorporate a alarm with it.& my rear cabin stereo quit working today,it will take a cd but no play,& the display shut dwn, time for a new stereo?,or on the sony,is there 2 separate power feeds, already checked the cabin breakers & all is good. Will be pulling that as well,Grand kids don't like using the headphones,& the aux on the stereo runs the TV & VCR sound through its own speaker setup. Not a big deal, fixing to upgrade to flat panels & a DVD anyway, just wanted to get your input.
Thanks,Tee

It depends on the model and how old the remote start system is ,, sometimes they do not have an alarm , most newer systems do come with an alarm these days though ,. On the rear cabin stereo it may have a loose or broken wire feed for power as some systems have more than one power feed ;sometimes a faulty power cable , it may have more than one fuse that feeds to it and may have one blown and it may be wired to front fuse panel under the dash .What model number is it? If you planning to upgrade to flat panels & a DVD , not worth putting money in it

I have a 95 2wd w/ bulldog remote start installed 2 years ago by previous owner and it won't work when cold. What can cause this problem besides cheap *** remote start? :?:

My sister had one for her truck. It will not work for her truck.Warm it starts it and cold it won't. Multiplier target of the remote start locks after 3X,and it must be manually reset. In the fine print of the instructions it says it has this problem on some vehicles. The remote start only cranks the engine 2 seconds.Well her truck takes 4-5 seconds of cranking cold to fire.

No, not starting...nothing, no start, no unlock lights etc. Not about number of cranks it doesn't do anything at all in the cold. Everything else works starting with key just not remotely.
