engine noise and over heating

engine noise and over heating

Postby lukas [OP] » August 9th 2020, 4:02pm

hey guys, have a chevy Astro 1999, rear-wheel drive, 4.3L

start from the beginning, I was overtaking on a hill and put a bit of stress on the engine i guess, heard a bit of a clack and lost power. started it back up and had to drive it couple extra kms as didn't have any cell service so had to keep going far enough to be able to get a tow, then its over heated and had coolant coming out of my overflow.

basically I have a noise coming from the bottom part of the engine, kinda where the crankshaft is,

my van starts but needs a couple of revs to get it going, then stays idling no problem, I have low oil pressure and when u give it a little gas the oil pressure goes up a little bit, but then drops again, wondering if my oil pump has failed?
but that still wouldn't explain the noise, the noise sounds like a kinda rattling like something may come loose, or maybe the harmonic balancer failed etc.

work i have done on the van, threw in a new waterpump and thermostart, suggested by a friend (as it over heated) i then checked all the pulleys, alternator spins smooth and so do all the rest, put on a new serpentine belt.

im now at the point, where im unsure what is going on, any help would be great

Overheating these engines will typically blow intake gaskets and/or head-gaskets. Blown head gaskets can lead to other problems. If you over-heat these engines bad enough, you can cause catastrophic damage to the lower end as well.

NEVER OVER HEAT THESE ENGINES!
Maybe you'll get lucky and it will be something simple. Good luck
