04 EGR valve location?

I'm working on an 04 and in trying to run down a problem with starts/very rough for a few seconds/cuts off Did all the normal stuff cap/rotor/plugs/wires/coil/module etc wanted to check the EGR to eliminate that but I cant find it. All my others have it right next to the thermostat housing in the front of the engine. This one has nothing there. Did they move it somewhere on later models?

Don't remember which year it changed but the last few years didn't have the egr

Yeah I did some reading after I posted and figured out the "X" engines did not have that system. So I am checking mechanical timing to rule that out and if that is the case then I will start back through the ignition --possibly something I missed. Checked fuel pressure 68lbs and dosnent vary much during crank/brief runs. changed the fuel injector spider assembly so its a new fuel pressure regulator and all that. Had to go run a service call this after noon so will tear back into it tomorrow and try to narrow it down more.

Yep, no EGR on an X vin - so not 2002-2005.

Check your IAC and TPS. IAC you can pull and clean the pintle and clean the bore. TPS you have to check with a meter.

Also, did you clean the throttle body when you replaced the spider? I mean top, bottom and bore.

I did I gave the throttle body a through cleaning the IAC looked ok but I did not pull it nor did I think about the TPS at all I have to check that. I was thinking the crank sensor might be an issue as well. Just need some time to go through it. As I said I have a customer pop up with an emergency this weekend whereby we have to pull out and repair/reconfigure and test bunch of gas line so time at home in the garage is limited. Probably get back to it tonite I just came home to get some stuff and grab a bite to eat.
Come to think of it I did have an issue with the throttle body right after I got the van a few weeks ago where the throttle stuck almost wide open and we thought the cruise control was not disengaging even in park but it turned out just to be stuck. I ended up spraying some PB blaster on that whole area where the cable connects and the return spring is - is it possible for that (PB blaster) to have a negative effect on either the TPS or IAC? That was right before this issue began.

Also I did look at the timing and right now with the timing mark on the damper aligned with the timing mark on the front cover the distributor rotor is pointing at the number 4 cyl position wheras it should be pointing at the number 1 cyl position. But that may have been self induced. Goin to reset that and see what happens first.

Timings all good.
after I ran all that down double checked the plug wires so nothing is in the wrong place. Did start and run for a second or five then quit. When I cranked it again it did start ---barely but I noticed fuel pressure fluctuating (dropping) pretty widely but in the few seconds it would "run" pressure was at or above 60 then it would drop out in correlation with a miss or stall but sometimes it would recover fast enough to pick back up and keep running but the instant you touch the throttle ---dead. So Im back to either a badly clogged filter(not likely) or a fuel pump going bad (likely---because its harder to do) Oh well at least I have a cause and effect correlation now.

Thats a thought. One of those things where I really want to find the causative issue. I was gonna clean up and push her out for the nite but might take a few more mins and look/tug at grounds.
The good thing is I have a whole new set of factory fuel lines so if they get f'd up in the process of dropping the tank I can replace sections as a unit ---and since the fuel filter and the return junction by the frame rail are not co-operating with removal efforts....it might be time to tear em out and re-do anyway.
Of course the tank is full and so far we haven't been able to siphon it.

I’ve never been able to siphon through the fill. I remove the filler pipe (leaving the stub hose) and stick the siphon directly into the tank.




The ground is on the crossmember in front of the tank, next to the electrical connection. Check the electrical connection and ground first.

Ill do that --that area looks sketchy on mine previous owner changed a transmission and wasn't very -----um detail oriented putting it back. IE the looming in that area is hit or miss and the bushing for the fuel lines through the crossmember is out and floating back behind somewhere

MAF sensor.
F-in MAF sensor got me.
Disconnected it and it started and ran,plugged it in and it died. Subbed one off the parts shelf --ran fine.
Oh well found some very rotted fuel lines over the tank and got those changed out new pump, lines and filter.
probably a china made sensor--def not an AC/Delco

And you got some other things fixed that were about to cause you more problems, so not a terrible thing.
