Where does this spring go?!

Where does this spring go?!

Postby Cjn115 [OP] » June 30th 2020, 10:30pm

Hey y’all, first time posting but have spend many hours on here and learned a lot. I bought a 2000 AWD Astro with 180k knowing it had a blown head gasket and went to town doing a pretty extensive rebuild. While pulling the engine to send to the machine shop I found this small spring on the ground and have no idea where it came from... Hoping one of you experts on here can help me out?

Future members (those that learn how to use the search function) need to know that spring came from the jack in the box.

What am I thinking. Nobody uses search.

I just got done with a complete tear down/rebuild of my 4.3 and the only springs I recall are the valve springs. Clearly that’s not a valve spring, I would say if your really paranoid about it keep it in a safe place until you start reassembling your motor if you need it you’ll know

not so much, really, search is search, after all.

like most forums that succeed and grow, the biggest problem here is inconsistency of terms, and improper terms. slang and nicknames for parts can be difficult to search out, and vague subject lines don't help either. this is no reflection on A/S dot com, this is something every large forum eventually suffers from.

the reason a large forum like this hangs on is there are helpful people here who've been around a long time, and they know where the juicy bits are. however, it isn't fair to hold their frustration against them, answering the same question time & again gets old.

my advice for any new forum user is...type out the question you are going to post, but then paste it into the search box before you post. with a little luck, you'll find something close to what you're after. THEN, instead of starting your new thread, reply to an existing thread with your question.

PS: that spring is way too clean and unblemished to associate with an engine pull. this smells like a prank. in my opinion, of course.

Well, yes so much. I have no clue what search is search means. I can point out, and others agree, that the search function on this site is horrible

. however, it isn't fair to hold their frustration against them, answering the same question time & again gets old.

Then don’t reply at all... Novel thought, but there is no requirement to reply!

my advice for any new forum user is...type out the question you are going to post, but then paste it into the search box before you post. with a little luck, you'll find something close to what you're after. THEN, instead of starting your new thread, reply to an existing thread with your question.

That would be great advice, but 120,000 resulted fo each word doesn’t really help.

I had a dream early this morning... as we were getting out of our car, no idea where.
Shutting the doors, people, dark hooded, dark clothed were pulling the doors out of our hands.

End of dream. I NEVER ( maybe 5 times in my life ) remember dreams. This was so vivid, I woke up startled, mad.
Still freaking me out.

Those people in the Restaurants and those harassed last week after the RNC. Hate that it is affecting me.

I wonder of the New CC / Gun people and the few ready to show why they got 'em.
And yeah, I realize they do this in "no carry" areas.

I am way, way, better off NOT CC. My family would likely agree...

It could have been a muffler bearing spring, but why was anybody taking a muffler bearing apart when removing a motor assembly.. even if it was the whole subframe?
That spring was way to new looking, and had to have come from something else, most probably unrelated to the engine work.
Keep it away form the intake manifold!
If it was found by me, I would not give it much of a thought, and it would go into my box of miscellaneous springs, to be used for some other project at a later date. You never know when you might need just such an item.
