More (stupid) 1st Gen Questions

As I dig into this thing, I seem to have more questions than answers right now. As I'm trying to finish bolting the accessary plat to the engine, I needed to move some bolts around because some were loose and some were studs. The 1st stupid question I have is do all the bolt holes (3 on each head I believe and 4 on the block by the timing cover ) go into the water jackets? If so, I'm going to need to seal the threads does it mater what sealer I use. I'm sure GM recommends something. To be fair, my block and heads did not come from an Astro van..if that matters. I think they are from a truck. This picture was before I started moving and tightening bolts. I also have a new water pump to add since this was the old one off my old engine. Also, my power steering hoses look like they take an O ring on the end that goes into the steering box...do they? Wiring questions. Some stuff, like the ground cable are still attached to the van. So, I guess anywhere on the block is okay. It's still attached to the terminal block on the radiator support so it will only go a couple places on the engine as it is. Starter wiring bundle...does it run down the side of the bell housing to the starter as opposed to coming in from the front side of the engine? Between this, job hunting and the holidays I'm wearing thin...

I don't believe any of the bolts go into the water jacket for the accessories brackets. I have never used sealant on them. The ps hoses do require an o ring at the threaded ends, any parts store should have them. The starter wires usually run down the back of the engine then forward if I remember correctly. As for the pictures Ask one of the mods or AstroWill.

I don't think they do either. Here's a pic of my 88's set up.[img]Astro van engine pull pics 004/img] on page 4 of my gallery. It's been too long since I pulled pics up for forum posting so I probably screwed up. But my 88 uses the same front mount plate as yours does.

- Will NOT update, upgrade, upmod the Forum's Software.

The "Problem" as well as other "Problems" will NOT be Fixed as long as no one...
- Complains & makes it stick, People keep coming & The Owners keep making MONEY.

Other than THAT - it is just plain Stubborn, Greedy, Ignorant & Uncaring.

I think I heard Banacek mentioning something the other day - let me do as you say - Sig Line - Perfect.
You'll get to see my Pleas everyday, many times, Management will love it !

Blood Pressure will be just fine - I don't hold it in, The Van is a Hobby for me & most here.
Looking at the 'Sig Area' - like CargoCrawler and TurnNburn did - maybe a meme of sorts.

And I also did not think you all ( well, maybe Will... ) could do an upgrade - it does take a specific skillset.

Nor do I care if the owners read anything either...


I would just like to know that the aforementioned have stayed on the "Ownership's ***" with continual questioning not unlike what I bedevil(ed) you with.


Surely you do not think that my only purpose here is to make things tiresome for you... Really ?
I want us to have the Best Forum on earth is all.
