Water Pump $40 Vs $150

Water Pump $40 Vs $150

Postby OldSchoolNoe [OP] » January 19th 2021, 8:13am

Near 140k miles on original pump, looks all rusty and is leaking from the weep hole. Shopping for a new one and you guys recommend only AC Delco parts.

There's ACDELCO 252711 For near $40
"Does Not Include Mount Bolts; Includes Inlet and Outlet Gaskets"

Then There's ACDELCO 251719 For near $150 "Includes Gasket"

The more expensive part is GM OE and the other is "Gm Gold." Definitely going with the cheaper part but there can't be that much of a difference in quality.

Hey

go with the cheaper one ...it will be perfectly fine I used a aftermarket pump ...once ..... and changed it again a year later with a AC Delco one. I m tired of aftermarket crap... go with the AC Delco pump ...and order felpro gasket kit if you want to . Try Rockauto :)

Also at least one of the bolts gos into a water jacket ...use a small amount of thread sealer on the bottom right bolt i think ....or all to be safe

I was dealing with the same question a couple of years ago. I found out that the less expensive ACDelco water pump was aftermarket and I wanted to go with genuine ACDelco parts so I opted for the one costing three times more. It has been fine after 60,000 miles since.
The cheaper one would probably have been OK but I just did not want to take a chance on a do-over.

This is how all the parts are going, just because it says ACDelco on it, doesn't mean that it's made by them or that it's of quality.

GM Genuine Parts/ACDelco Original Equipment are the original equipment parts, in other words it's what was installed on the production line. ACDelco Gold(was called professional) is their 'high-quality' line of parts, and ACDelco Silver(was called advantage) is their 'value-quality' line of parts.

Regardless of which one you choose, make sure you do the installation correctly and they will work just fine for you. Properly clean the mating surfaces, install the gaskets dry and seal/torque your bolts properly and you will be good to go.

I'll put my vote in for "Tuff Stuff Super-Cool" High-Volume Performance Pump... aftermarket performance "Made in USA"... $65. Works GREAT!

It has the "extra plate" for "high-volume" output.
I just had to open it and see for myself... :D

I bought the $40 one
Failed leaking in a year and 3000 miles ( 2nd vehicle)
Plus it rusted and looked like crap almost immediately

Then I bought the other one and it has been fine for 2 years and hasn’t rusted
