Platinum +4 and other "exotic" spark plugs

Postby powwowtime [OP] » June 27th 2012, 1:04am

Anybody notice a worthwhile difference in performance and/or mileage after splurging for the high dollar plugs?

Mine runs exactly the same. I just don't have to change them as often.

I played with hose mutli electrode plugs when they first came out, had nothing but trouble with them. I run NGK Iridium's, no difference in performance, but I don't have to change them for 60k miles of so.

I like the Bosh plus fours. Not like putting 2 plugs/cyl, but they do the job, and for a lot longer mileage interval. Changing plugs is like me

pulling my own teeth. (not a favorite job here at gasoline alley)

For me personally it's been Ac Delco Platinums - Bosch Platinums - and my current plugs are the NGK Iridiums. All of these plugs work well, my preference are the Iridiums though, the only beef I have with them is they sometimes work loose at around the 50,000 mile mark.

I just check them and snug them up if need be at that point. I still feel they are worth the money though. I have noticed a slight improvement with gas mileage and performance with my engine (every little bit helps).

As for the Platinum +4s, I have never run them, so I can't give an opinion about them.

Just my 2-cents here for what it's worth.:)

I like the AC Delco Iridium plugs. Same part number as the old Platinums; they've just replaced them.

Oh, and they definitely made a difference in both my '99 Safari and my 'new' '02 Astro. The Safari had Champion coppers in them (!) and the Astro had Autolite Platinums.

I've used Bosch Platinum Plus, and Bosch Platinum +2. Never tried Platinum+4. But performance is just as good as ACDelco in my opinion. The platinum +2 just lasts longer than the Platinum Plus. No change in performance.

Bosch has a rebate going on right now that makes the final price of +4 plugs around 50 cents each.

I'm currently using the Bosch Platinum +4 plugs in Green. Not sure how much benefit there is to them as I have a few other mods done. Overall I'm happy with them.

The previous owner of my Astro put Autolite double platinums in it,right before I bought it.Doesn't Ford make these things  ? I guess they have a 5 year, unlimited mileage warranty, according to the sales receipt.I've always used AC Delco plugs/parts in all my GM vehicles. They cost more, but peace of mind is worth it.This van will get them eventually, when I do a tune up.

That what I run in mine. I never have a miss. I can't ask more out of a plug.
I have used autolite forever. Nobody sees them once the spark plug boots on. Besides Furd can't do everything wrong. They got a good plug.

Just wait till it misses to change them. Heck in a hundred thousand miles you'll think these ain't bad plugs. Like Lumpy said just got to keep a good supply of dome light bulbs. So I guess it give and take.
