Astro Van alternator

Astro Van alternator

Postby MurdaMunkey [OP] » July 9th 2012, 10:25am

Hello forums of van people! I'm new here this counts as my introduction... so yeah.... I happen to have an Astro...

Anywho, My question is a relatively simple one unless your 10. Regardless, I was just wondering if there was anything special to do before removing the alternator on this here van.

To my knowledge it is the 1992 Astro van cs with the 4.3L Vortec V6 that originally produced 200Hp. (as far as I know)

Welcome to the forum, its not a hard job, just take your time and all will be good. I did this a while back & its not so tough. While you have the belt off check the other pulleys for roughness, may save time later. :D

I have tried praying. I have tried aspirin. Neither helps. I've tried getting my hands dirty...That did the trick.

I just did a thread on this (or added to one). I put in pics but you surely DONT take the doghouse off. I am the first to do it if needed but its just not.

I have a 1995 and it had a 3rd bolt in the back. NOTHING coulde loosten it but a bent wrench. No socket, no ratcheting box wrench.

You must remove the fan shroud top half though.

Cargo by the bay. You got to be a mechanic to get tools there. We have tools from there that are 30 plus years old and not a problem with them.
Some of their stuff is junk, other tools last forever. Just got to look at what your buying. Biggest issue I have with them is. When you buy wrench and socket sets they always leave out sizes.
