egr blocking

egr blocking

Postby docmaas [OP] » March 25th 2013, 4:30am

I got the egr valve off the engine and made a block out of 0.016 aluminum. Now I'm wondering if it is too thin and might burn through. I don't want to have to do this again.

Should I do it again with heavier gauge?

I would go 1/8 inch.
I used 1/8 steel even. I cut up a piece of furniture bracing.

thanks, I'll have local machinist make one for me. I don't have the tools to do anything much heavier than I did this time.

A few more questions: Is there anything additional to be done other than putting in the blocking plate? Is High Heat red silicone on both sides of the blocking plate sufficient to seal it? Should I put everything back together the way it was to avoid throwing a code. The truck is a 1991 Astro TBI.

thanks,

I just used a gasket on each side of the metal plate.
It will throw a code. My engine light is burnt out. So I don't even know if the light comes on. I looked at the live data.
