Do I need this bracket?

Do I need this bracket?

Postby deleteitall [OP] » July 18th 2013, 9:07pm

When I delete my ac compressor this bracket will be gone but it looks like it supports more than the compressor, like it stabilizes the 2 brackets on the front of the engine. I don't know what do you think? Did non-a/c Astros have a different bracket or no bracket?

I never saw on one on my 97. it didn't have a/c. I think its mostly to help any torsional force in the ac as the belt turns, and puts load on it.
ac attaches to the power steering pump bracket.
any non ac guys notice it? pop your hood for deleteitall!!!!!

Thanks thegreenmachine I could make another bracket that goes straight across to the same bolt hole just lower down and just use a shorter bolt after the compressor is gone. Of course as usual something is in the way - the water pump bypass hose. :banghead: That is a heavy duty lookin bracket I hate to just take it out. I see a lot of 4.3 pics on the net w/o it though......
