What brand gas / octane / additives do you use?

What brand and octane gas do you use for your Astro/Safari?

Do you use additives in the bottle like octane booster or fuel system cleaners?

87 octane for most of the past 10 years, cheap Valero brand or grocery store brand. Then I switched to Valero 93 octane a few years ago and the Astro ran better.

At 185K miles I just switched to a Top Tier gas - Chevron Supreme 93 octane with Techron so we'll see how that goes - I'm trying to keep my fuel injectors clean, and valves etc so I don't have to pay someone $$$$$ to replace my fuel injectors or fuel pump again.

Also just added a bottle of Chevron Pro-Gard Techron fuel injector cleaner. My bad fuel guage sensor is causing my fuel guage to go up and down at random so I'm thinking it's a corroded fuel level sensor. Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus is formulated to fix this - supposedly it removes sulfur corrosion and the "Plus" part adds a coating to the fuel system to keep more sulfur corrosion from building up on the sensor again. I got the basic Techron (not the "Plus" version) because I don't like the idea of adding a coating to my fuel system parts and engine parts too - injector pin holes / valves / piston walls etc... Not sure what Techron or Techron Plus does to fuel pumps.

7 years ago I tried the acetone mileage thing that's been controversial on some internet forums - adding acetone at every fill up for better gas mileage/cleaner running etc but lost interest after a few months and always wondered if it was keeping the oil from lubing the cylinder walls and piston rings like it should, or thinning the oil from acetone blowing past the piston rings and getting in the crankcase. The acetone definitely made the van run different (seemed better, maybe just leaner not sure) and didn't notice enough change in mileage to bother with buying /adding acetone and risking engine damage/failure.

So I'm paying more for gas now with the Chevron Supreme 93 with Techron but if it keeps the van out of the shop and maybe increases mileage a bit I'd rather pay now instead of later. :2: :2: :2: :2: :2: :2: :2: :2:

chevron all the way 87. I did a mpg test some years back in my toyota. 3 consecutive tanks from all major brand's. chevron and texico gave me the best mpg followed by 76 and shell, then exxon and mobile, arco came in last with 40 miles less a tank then chevron and texico.

Mostly what ever is in the tanks at the 7-Eleven (87 octane) or Shell (87 octane).

I'll occasionally put in a bottle of Gumout Regane (clear bottle). If I know the van isn't going to be moved in a few months, I'll throw in some Sta-Bil stabilizer.

I live in Panama City FL and we have a gas distributor here. Every company (Shell/Texaco/Exxon/Chevron/WalMart/Ect) Get the gas from the same place. It's exactly the same. The only thing that's different is the different companies put different additives in their gas. It still all comes from the same supplier though.

For boosted vehicles (turbo) I'll always run 93. Sometimes 100. (2 stations have 100 oct) But for my astro i just put cheap ol' 87 in it. I do buy random fuel treatment/injector cleaners I add also. And sometimes put a tank of non ethanol gas in it.

Here the only way to get non-ethanol is premium (91 octane), so that's what I'm running now. Noticeably better mileage and ethanol is something I try to avoid.

If fueling up in states then most cases Safeway 87, if in Canada then Chevron 87 - don't see any difference in mpg.

Haven't used any additives, but thinking about trying some out.

Well after a month of using Chevron Supreme 93 with Techron and adding a few bottles of Chevron Pro-Gard Techron fuel injector cleaner my fuel gauge sensor is now working like it should and the engine runs better (and gets better gas mileage I think but I haven't calculated mileage yet).

So if your fuel gauge starts acting weird try some Techron. :2:
