Fuel Trim Readings & O2 Sensors

Fuel Trim Readings & O2 Sensors

Postby Mmusicman [OP] » September 19th 2013, 2:58am

I'm using my first OBD2 live data reader, along with a basic OBD2 Lite Program (text only), and trying to make hay out of the readings to determine what issue I may have. I'm currently getting 10-12mpg (used to get 15+ same van).

I've swapped a few things, so I'm pretty sure what is not the problem.

Fuel trim avg readings on highway as high as +6 to +7. Bank 1 Sensor 3 seems to read low most of the time, but sometimes stays in the 8's. I'm not sure which one this is, but I want to replace it. The two manifod O2 sensors seem correct.

Any tips or reading suggestions appreciated.

Hi, You want fuel trim as close to 0 as possible. Without further info ( miles on van, any codes and so on...) it is hard to say whats up, but you can not go wrong with a new quality (OEM) cap and rotor. Depending on miles you may also look at plugs. A fuel filter is another possible one on the list if you have not changed it, along with a good quality air cleaner. Wires and more come in if your getting a code. Good luck
