not quite foolproofed on my cooling system r and r

Postby Pfodder [OP] » November 16th 2013, 10:03pm

Thanks to everyone for the great collection of stuff on this website. Helped me to get a lot of things done the past few days, but I did manage to lose the video I took to help myself relocate the hoses from the water pump to the thermostat housing and heater core, and no luck finding a picture on the sight. Can anyone help? The thermostat housing is just above the water pump, so i need to connect the short hose from it to the water pump, and i don't know whether it goes to the connector on the driver or passenger side of the water pump. The other hoses i can work out if i get that one right :|

Mine is a 96 4.3 4x4, and i started out to put a new rad in , but ended up getting a few other things out of the way, like new thermostat, fixed vacuum lines, new spark plugs, pcv valve, cleaned the egr valve, took out and old hot wire button to the starter someone had put in who knows when, rewired the stereo, and on and on.... Hoping this is gonna be a good vehicle in the snow again! Thanks y'all.

The large long hose goes between the T-stat and to the upper driver side radiator tank. The large short

hose goes from the W/P to the lower pax side radiator tank. The 5/8" hose goes from the W/P to the heater

control valve above the air box. May I suggest you invest in a FactoryService Manual.

It will help you out of a lot of potholes in the maintenance road, and will impart

much information about how things should work before trying to figure things out on your own.

Wow! Thanks much for the pics and w.o.w. (words of wisdom). Got er back on the road now and it definitely feels sharper, smooth operation on the cooling system, and NICE to have control of where the cab heat is going again..now to wait till morning and see what tools are still on the ground, gets dark so dang early!

Tools ? When I was a Real Little Uncle Bob, I used to help (spelled h,i,n,d,e,r) my dad. I played with some other kids

in a vacant lot across the street, and we always needed tools. I remember my dad scrounging thru the weeds many a

time before the truck left the driveway. Kids ! Well, it's their job, No ?

That is why we have several complete sets around here.
I don't find them in the weeds, they in the toybox.

Knowing approximately where a tool was last used only helps when the leaves aren't falling faster. I think I'll be waiting to find my yellow air pressure gauge for awhile... :P

So not cooling related but tool related....about 2 yrs ago my son decided to help daddy work on this motorcycle (he was about 3 at the time)...so i come home from work and my wife says...have you seen your bike, I said no, she says go have a look at it...my son though it would be helpful to put 6 or so small hail sized dents into my front fender...too funny...I could not get mad, only laugh...he said Daddy use tools I use tool too, turns out it was one of my long driver extensions....would have loved to see his face when he was banging away on the fender...
