Rocker arm cover

Hey Guys,
Do you know how tight the rocker arm cover bolts should be. My Haynes repair book is saying "48lbs"
That seems a lot, I change both sides in the summer & got them as tight as I could. But one side is leaking a little (passager side) I have tried tighten them more with a torque wrench & got them to 35lbs, but it feels like the blots are going to strip. I have been getting PO300 code for misfires & looking for a vacum leak, this is how I came to see the leak. Looks like I will have to buy a other new gasket for that side.

I would be surprised if you can get to 48FP w/o snapping the fasteners right out of the engine.

For the 1985 rocker cover bolts, the torque (per the Haynes book, chapter 2B) is 48 IP (inch Pounds).

I'll bet you are going to need new rocker covers and new fasteners, b/c yours are most likely bent

way out of shape, and leaking. Return to Jail, do not pass Go, do not collect $200.

ops! Yea, guys spelling mistake 48 inch pounds was what I mean to say, But even so. Still I'm finding that 35 inch pounds is as tight as I can get, because it feels like they are going to strip!!!

I would just snug them and watch & after a while snug them again, just be sure to check for leaks. Too much tightening will warp your covers, use a new gasket.
