05 Astro PCV, doesn't have one?

Well, at 103,000 I bit the bullet and did a tune-up on saturday. you know plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and pcv valve. My 05 Astro does not have a pcv valve. It just has a collection of fittings that go from the valve cover to the plastic bell, just prior to the throttle body. Will this cause a problem with any aspect of the vans performance? Or should I just go ahead and install a pcv valve? Thanks

from everything i have looked up they all say there is a pcv on your van. they list the part on all the parts websites and it even says to change it at 100K miles on the service schedule.

Sorry Guys, no pix. After replacing the dog house on sunday. Pulling it again on tuesday, just to be sure. (confirmed with gm parts counter guy) There is no pcv valve, per se. Digging in this morning I realize what I called the plastic tubing assy is. My 05 Chevy Astro has what is called a fixed orifice pcv system. No pcv valve to clog or replace. Good or Not, I don't know. Mileage before the tune up was 18.4 mpg average. We will wait and see what that bears out in the next few weeks. Hope this helps someone else down the road though. Thanks

Oh, I also think that older rattle pcv valve can be updated to the newer fixed orifice pcv valve. Check with your local dealer for confirmation. I also think that there are tsb's which suggest upgrading due to oil consumption complaints by GM customers. Thanks

If your engine looked as dirty as mine, you may not have recognized it. Should be right behind the A/C Compressor mounted in the valve cover.

Hey Guys, It was hard for me to wrap my mind around this one. This link and many others about the fixed orifice pcv systems did it. It seems like an improvement over the old pcv valve system. Check it out, opens a pdf about it. Thanks

Good read. I wonder how long until they quit selling the older style valves? Sounds like there would be no trouble running a newer style valve on an older vehicle.

i would think it would be cheaper to make the old style.

it look and sounds as though the new style just has a hole drilled in it to allow a programmed amount of flow. the new style would be cheaper as it is only one chunk with a hole drilled in it. the old style has more than one piece so should in theory cost more to produce. that's just my thoughts on it...i noticed also that this was a fix on 99 and up vehicles. so as a pcv valve cost like $3 ill stick with the old kind for now

I think I can confirm this too. My '05 base model passenger van had a PCV valve looking thing on the driver side valve cover. It is way thinner than the aftermarket part I bought and doesn't have any thing inside that rattles.

Wish I had found this post a few days earlier! I spent the past two nights trying to find the PCV valve location.

I can confirm. My 2003 astro have the fixed piece, so I don't need a pcv valve. It's a a fixed small hole in the piece and much thinner than the old style pcv valves.

But... the there is a PCV valve cover available on my 2004.

I pulled it last night to discover the PCV fits nicely -- although I'm not sure it belongs there. I'll take pictures in the morning.

Well it does exist just in a different spot:

That metal nipple in the front of the picture is the "smaller" PCV valve looking thing. It's just a vent from the valve cover to the actual PCV valve.

looks like on the 99 Astro they still used the old type. Just changed mine two days ago.

Maybe it is a GEN-III thing.

I accidently pulled the other metal nipple out thinking it was the PCV... Hope it isn't a big deal.

Question: is there supposed to be an o-ring around the PCV? Mine fits in there kinda loose.

I put one on -- even though my PCV valve didn't come with one. I was hoping someone that had one installed already could answer that question for me...

It does seem counter-intuitive that this valve wouldn't be seated with an O-Ring.... but I find it pretty incredible that the FSM pretty much ignores the PCV valve altogether on 2004/05 vehicles.
