Who has Bravada, S10, S15, Blazer, Jimmy?

If anyone has any of the following -

GMC TYPHOON (1992 - 1993)
OLDSMOBILE BRAVADA (1991 - 2001)

Could you tell me about the oil filter mount, please? Apparently there's a Dorman part 917-035 that is a filter mount for these vehicles. Looks like this -



Is this a REMOTE filter mount that runs lines to and from the engine block? Or is it bolted to the block, no hoses, fed direct?

I'm trying to figure out a remote oil filter mount that uses M18-1.5 filter (our stock) instead of the typical 3/4-16 filter that essentially all the other remote mounts use.

Lumpy, I dunno about that part, but the oil filter mount in my Bravada is in the driver's side fender. Kinda nice to reach, but a little messy (not hugely; just a little).

One set of oil cooler lines to the filter mount, another set from the filter mount to the radiator.

If I remember, tomorrow I'll get pics in daylight when I get home from work.

FWIW, I believe only the 4wd S10/15 Blazer/Jimmy/Pickup had this setup. My ex had an '89 S15 Jimmy 2wd that had the expected filter-direct-to-the-block arrangement. Same as our first Astro (Also an '89).

Yes, just a 4x4 arrangement. I don't know if it was for clearance or to keep guys from shearing the filter off while off-roading.

it was for clearance of the front differential and associated hardware. I believe that all GM based 4x4 have this filter arrangement, so I had read. I believe it this is carried over to the suburban and Tahoe with 5.7's as well, what boggles me is that the astro has a direct to block filter but the 01 blazer doesn't seems weird.

So the big question is - Do you think I can bolt this part to my van somewhere, run lines to it and use it as an external oil filter mount?

I don't see why not.

my 93 bravada has it on the drivers side inner fender and you can buy it and install it on the astro I have seen it done.

But it appears they don't have any kind of standard flare fittings. But instead have that manifold style connection like on an AC compressor.

I'm thinking that won't be an easy conversion to what I want to do.

Yep, manifold style. Just like your existing oil cooler lines. My factory originals had grooves cut around the actual lines on the block where o-rings went. The new ones came with flat blocks and gaskets.
