Loads up at cold start up

Loads up at cold start up

Postby chris1224 [OP] » March 18th 2010, 4:42am

Yeah its me again... new day new problem. i got my v8 swap complete and loving my new found power, but the bugs are killin me. When i go out to start up my van it will start but i have to hold it half throttle while it sets here and loads up and rolls black. then all uf a sudden like a switch it smooths right and runs and idles great. Itslike a carb thats choke is stuck. Its like what ever controls the fuel mixture at start up is acting up.is it the sensor on the front intake that goes into the water passage beside the water neck? please help me work out this kink please. thanks chris

Any codes? If there is a bad connection at the two wire ECT sensor it could be telling the ECM it is -40*. Check the plug and sensor terminals for corrosion and tight fit. Scanner with live data will show what the ECM is seeing at that moment. Any raw fuel smell from engine area before startup?

What is the fuel pressure at startup?

not sure ... what you thinkin, to much pressure at start up? why would the pressure be diff. it dont just clear up. it is just like a switch. from loading to clear.like something electrical.

I'm thinking the fuel pressure isn't high enough. Weak fuel pumps can take a while to build pressure. You could always spray some starting fluid into the throttle body the next time to start it when its cold and see if the problem goes away.

I was going to tell you to remove the fuse for the injectors at first start to see if its' flooded, but you don't smell fuel.

Exactly why I think the pressure is low.
