How can you make these vans faster

If GM had put any HP in the gen2s with the extra body over hang providing way more weight transfer / traction they would have had to do something about the stock tin rear springs that wrap up like rubber bands and wheel hop enough to throw the ash tray right out of the dash and require a rear anti sway bar to cut down on the "rear steer" that is trying to kill you...

Yes it would but nothing exciting. If combined with other mods it would wake it up. I am one of the few who plays with these engines. They run damn good with a few changes. My last one beat base LS motors. This boat anchor I got in there now ain't no dog either. Hot rod it and you will put up with abuse here. But they just a air pump and respond to mods like anything else.
It would sound good be peppier.

I would definitely like the sound benefits, such big car with not a loud enough roar. And heck if it does increase HP by 10-15 (As they say) I'll take it. Usually I can always feel a difference in performance if it's so slightly. I can feel that the vans quicker with a close to empty tank then when its full. Some of my family think I weird for really liking gmc safaris and astros haha but idk we all got that one car that just speaks to us.

From my experience modding and tuning other cars the catback exhaust has negligible gains. You will benefit more from appearance and sound than performance.

Two things I have done:
1) Modified the throttle body plate by cutting off the concave restrictor. This improved throttle response from a stop but doesn’t necessarily add power.
2) I did a ghetto cold air intake with a 90* piece of 3” dia PVC pipe, 3” coupler attached to throttle body and a cone filter from Advance. Not only did this help the van breathe a little better (I had a K&N filter before and this was an improvement), but it makes removing/installing the intake a couple second task and opened up space on my passenger side for my trans cooler lines to run past the radiator. As far as the intake air temperatures having a “cold” air intake in a “hot” engine bay, its actually only a couple degrees warmer than the outside air temps when driving on the highway, even during hot summer days. However, if you are in traffic or driving in the city the temps get high fast. I’ll try to find photos of my “honda civic inspired CAI”.

Best way to gain more power on this van ..... Is the same as any other car. Better exhaust, better intake, good tune up and finally take it to any GM programmer that have HPtunner or EFIlive as I do with all my cars truck and van. My van gain 23 WHP at,the dyno with kn filter(in box) , filter box modification, lower temp thermostat (i live in the carribean) , cat delete dynomax muffler new plugs and wire , 3.73 gears and ecm tune by Christian de saint preux one of the best tunner we have in PR he also works with vengance racing in texas. If you want the number let me know, he can contact some friend-tunner near your area. My van feels amazing now more power and more fuel economy even my shift point and tranny feel greeeat! i recomend this to every one. All my house cars have been reprogamed by him (less my wife MDX haha).
